Speaker: Dr. Carmen Parra-Farinas

Dr. Carmen Parra-Farinas finished her Medical School at University of Cantabria, Spain. During this time, she had significant international exposure, doing her last year in Brazil and several clinical rotations over the summers in Poland, Taiwan and the United States. After that, Carmen completed her Diagnostic Radiology training at the University of Barcelona when she realized that the field of Neuroradiology, especially Neurointervention, was her passion. During her residency, the bulk of her scholarly activity was focused primarily in acute ischemic stroke and she was privileged to join the Neuroradiology service at King’s College and the Interventional Radiology service at Great Ormond Street in London for clinical rotations while she was doing her residency. She also has finished and successfully defended her Ph.D. titled “Endovascular treatment Technical features in Adult and Pediatric population with acute ischemic stroke” which she presented last April. Carmen has joined the SickKids last month as a Clinical Associate in Interventional Neuroradiology & Neurovascular Disease, after three years of training in both Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the University of Toronto. Her research interests include neurovascular imaging, and image-guided therapeutics. In addition, she is focused in gender inclusivity, especially in Neurointerventional surgery. Carmen strongly believes that diversity stimulates creativity, innovation, respect, and inclusiveness. She is convinced that being considerate, honest, and tactful, valuing others' opinions, and understanding the importance of both social and task-related relationships is crucial for a good working environment.
