Presenter: Christian lorio-Morin, MD, PhD, FRCSC
Biography: Dr. Iorio-Morin obtained a PhD in pharmacology and completed his MD training and neurosurgical residency at the Université de Sherbrooke. He is currently completing a fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery at the Toronto Western Hospital with the University of Toronto. He was appointed Adjunct Professor of Clinical Practice at the Université de Sherbrooke in 2019. He is also CEO of Hyperexis, a mobile app development company as well as Abaxial Medical Inc., a medical engineering startup.
During his training, Dr. Iorio-Morin authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and gave over 75 oral and poster presentations at national and international meetings. Combining his expertise in pharmacology and medicine, he worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center on medication conservation during human spaceflight and collaborates with the Canadian Space Agency on issues related to increased intracranial pressure in space. Some of his engineering work was featured on CBC/Radio-Canada. He is most interested in the development of medical technologies and devices, as well as emerging indications for functional neurosurgical procedures.
As part of the COVID-19 pandemic response, Dr. Iorio-Morin led a group of Canadian neurosurgeons to assess the risk of nosocomial contamination of healthcare workers during neurosurgical procedures. His team developed mitigation strategies to safely operate COVID-19 positive patients.
