Dr. Aguirre attended medical school and Neurosurgery Residency at University of Chile, and completed a Research Fellowship at Harvard University. Dr. Aguirre is also a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at Groningen University / University of Chile Joint Degree Program, Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery Fellowship at University of Toronto.

Other academic affiliations: Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at University of Chile, Board member of the Chilean Society of Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery SONEPSYN, Member of the national committee for deep brain stimulation surgery for generalized dystonia, Director of the Neuromodulation and Functional Neurosurgery Program of the San Borja-Arriarán Hospital, Santiago, Chile (first functional neurosurgery program of the chilean public system).
