Update on Caring for Women with Epilepsy

Presenter: Dr. Mona Sazgar MD, FAES

Biography: Dr. Mona Sazgar is Clinical Professor of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of California, Irvine. Her prior appointments include professorship at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Sazgar earned her medical degree from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. She fulfilled her neurology residency at the University of Alberta, also in Canada, and her clinical neurophysiology EEG/epilepsy fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Sazgar went on to Harvard Medical School, in conjunction with Children’s Hospital Boston in Massachusetts, to complete her clinical neurophysiology/pediatric epilepsy fellowship. 

Dr. Sazgar is the author of the book Absolute Epilepsy and EEG Rotation Review: Essentials for Trainees, Springer 2019 and the editor of the textbook Controversies in Caring for Women with Epilepsy, Springer 2016. In addition to her vast experience as Principal Investigator for several clinical trials in epilepsy, she has served as a reviewer for multiple renowned medical publications and associations including the American Academy of Neurology and the Epilepsy Research Journal. Dr. Sazgar is a sought-out national and international speaker and educator, and she is a Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society. Dr. Sazgar is also an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and was recognized as an Orange County Physician of Excellence while also earning a Physician’s Recognition Award by the American Medical Association. She is ranked as a Top Doctor according to US News & World Reports.
