Presenter: Herbert Ho Ping Kong MBBS PhD FRCPC

Biography:

Dr. Herbert Ho Ping Kong is a graduate of the University College of the West Indies (London 1965). He
migrated to Canada in the early 1970s and joined McGill University as Assistant Professor of Clinical
Studies. He became the Founder and First Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec in 1981.
In 1984, Dr. Ho Ping Kong became an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, rising to become Associate Physician-in-Chief of the Toronto Hospital, and Chief of Medicine, Toronto Western Hospital. He served as Chairman of the Specialty Committee in Internal Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 1986-1992.
He is the co-founder of The HoPingKong Centre for Excellence in Education and Practice, and held the Maisie and Gladstone Chang Chair in the Teaching of Internal Medicine from 2004 to 2015.
In July 2014, Dr. Ho Ping Kong co-authored a book with Michael Posner entitled “The Art of Medicine– Healing and the Limits of Technology.” He has been honored with the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine’s Sir William Osler Award, as well as the 3M Teaching Fellowship of Canada. In 2015, Dr Ho Ping Kong was bestowed the Order of Distinction (OD) by the Government of Jamaica, and in 2017, he was awarded the Musgrave Medal for Science from Jamaica.
